Fishers in the Philippines staged protests over rising fuel costs as they resumed work following the monsoon season, according to newsinfo.inquirer.net. The demonstrations come as the country braces for another round of pump price increases.
Citing industry sources, GMA Network reports that diesel prices could climb by as much as P9.50 per liter and gasoline by P5.50 per liter in the coming week. The Philippine News Agency separately reported that fuel prices may rise by nearly P11 per liter. Daily Tribune noted that while the diesel increase may ease, it is still expected to approach P10 per liter.
Philstar.com also reported that liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices are set to go up. The overlapping increases add pressure on fishing communities, for whom fuel is a major operating cost.
